In a small, but power-packed, must-read book, Randy Alcorn challenges the reader to radically rethink Biblical commands of tithing and giving. Specifically, he argues that a tithe (a tenth part) is only the beginning of our giving. While convincingly declaring his disdain for legalism, he points out that the Bible in Old Testament and New Testament command and expect a tenth plus free-will offerings. He asks the question why New Covenant Christians (Christians after the Christ’s earthly ministry)should not give far more than a tenth based on our benefit of the being on this side of the cross.
Alcorn makes a compelling call to the church to be actively giving towards missions, poverty and evangelism. He does so excellently without complicating his message with politically charged motivations.
